Bio:

Camille fuses an elegant mixture of various genres. From pop to jazz, and even a touch a rock, her music is filled with life lessons of love and simply ordinary life. So who is she? A Chicago native, Camille has been encircled in music. With Camille, it’s not all about singing though. She intertwines the melodic language of her piano with her voice. Classically trained, she started piano at the early age of 8. She began singing at the age of 6. “We all had our role model that we’d try to be in the mirror with a hairbrush for a microphone,” Camille says. “For me, it was either Janet Jackson or Whitney Houston.” She attributes her musical talent to her mom, who has always sung soulful music in the church and still fills the house with it.

Camille has been a singer and keyboardist in several bands: Soul Prodigy, Kewl Beanz, and Rented Mule, just to name a few. She has performed in several venues, including The Taste of Chicago, The West Oak Lane Jazz & Arts Festival, The Rumba, Checkerboard Lounge, Weeds, and many more. In addition, Camille was nominated for the Outstanding Achievement Award in Music by the African American Arts Alliance. No stranger to the studio as well, she has finished her self-titled CD, Camille G. Brown.

People describe her music as upbeat, smooth, and relaxing. It is there to pique your listening senses. Each song takes you by surprise and captivates you in a different way so that you never know what to expect. But somehow, it congeals under the same umbrella. “In my music, I am many times telling the story of something that I experienced, or I am speaking directly to someone,” Camille describes. Essentially, she feels that everyone’s life is a story. She has just set hers to music.

Interview:

Tell the world who is Camille G Brown in 20 words or less?  I am a singer/songwriter/pianist who loves to share real music, regardless of genre.

What's your genre? I don’t want to limit myself in terms of genre.  I released a CD that has pop, jazz, R&B, and rock.  From now on, I will release separate genres on separate projects.

Where are you from? Chi-town! Also known as Chicago

What makes you stand out from the average recording artist in your genre? Not only am I a singer, but I play my keys.  That allows me to be more vulnerable to my audience, sharing music with them in almost a different language.  I also write my songs.

When did you first become introduced to music?
I started singing in the choir at church at the age of 6.

How would you describe your style?   Regardless of the genre, it’s an overall positive message.  No matter what I make, all of my music turns out having a smooth vibe.

What is a typical day like for you? Right now, working 2 careers is my hustle.  I work in corporate America during the day, but at night, I am negotiating with producers, videographers, going to vocal lessons, doing shows, and the whole nightlife.

Tell us about your current project(s)?  Right now, I am working on a couple of pop songs with a really gifted producer.  We are looking to promote that sound all over 1st Chicago, and then other cities.

Who in your life intrigued you to get into the music business?
I have to give credit to a lot of people for being a great music influence, from my mother who sings, to several of my piano teachers.  However, when Derek Linzy, a producer, was looking for a singer, a friend referred me.  It was my first time recording.  When I did it, I fell in love with it!  I realized that that was what I had to do with my life.

In 2010 what was your greatest accomplishment(s)?  Completing my CD and performing at the Taste of Chicago

What are your goal(s) for 2011?  I want to get to a point where I am performing every week.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Self-employed, performing.  I’ll be doing what I love

Where do you see the industry in 5 years?  Even more-so online.  There will be many more indie artists, making a career largely online.

If you could work with any artist(s) in the music industry who would it be? Alanis Morrisette

What’s your secret, how do you come up with your material? Perhaps like most musicians.  It comes to me when I least expect it, like when I 1st wake up with a melody in my head.  That’s how “Strange Thing” came about.

What's your final words you want to express to your readers?  Stay tuned and look out for future projects.  I hope to be one of the people that can influence the industry to be more positive.  Be blessed!
